Heroes

One of the reasons Heroes is so successful...

...is that they completely nailed Mr. Bennett as a character.

In the first few episodes he was clearly the bad guy. (In fact the commercials called him the 'face of evil'). It took a few episodes to even really see him, which is a typical trick to create interest in a character. First they paint him as a villain. Then, of course, things happen, and that early clarity is now greyed out.

Then more things happen and it gets really grey. He may or may not be a good guy, but they did a fantastic job of making us interested in whether or not he is, and sympathetic to his goals, especially where Claire is concerned.

And of course, tonight, they actually do reveal a fair amount. And...it's still not clear if he is a good guy or a bad guy, and even worse, the things that make him a good guy may be gone. Possibly putting him back in the bad guy corner (and making us wistful!).

Very good stuff, so far.
