Dresden
99.9% of the people on my friends list already know that Jim Butcher (with whom I am acquainted but I am not close enough to him to call him a friend, honestly, but I've known him for a damn long time now) managed to get his Dresden Files novels picked up as a series on Scifi. It premiered tonight (or is premiering in less than an hour on the west coast, but DirecTV for us as the east coast feed for the Scifi channel).
Non-spoilery review: Somehow I was under the impression it was going to follow the first novel more closely; and some parts they kept very close to the novels and some parts they appear to have chucked, but so far nothing that they've changed really bugs me in any way.
I think my biggest gripe is that it would've been better served as a 2 hour pilot movie where they could've done a slightly extended plot, had a little more in the way of introducing characters, history and what not, and not felt quite so rushed (because there was still quite a lot in the way of introductions).
Actually...now that I think on it, this really feels like it was actually a 2nd or 3rd episode initially and perhaps some of the history stuff was spliced back in. Hm. But that doesn't feel right either, at least one or two scenes in it were pretty choreographed. Hard to say. Anyhow, it was pretty decent, and I look forward to seeing where they take this.
Now I wait for
da_zhuang to either get home or tell me not to wait for him for BSG.
