I have no words to express myself

The most important issue in this election cycle lost yesterday. The larger victory pales in comparison. I can take no joy in an Obama win when 52% of my state has voted to take rights away from a group. Today is a sad day.

I totally agree. I'm holding out a little hope for the absentee ballots...I suppose it depends who voted absentee.

Yeah. I was so excited and elated over Obama's win, and foolishly assumed that because of that, 8 would be defeated. And then Ellie called me to talk about the results, and mentioned where 8 was going, and I crashed down so hard. I couldn't sleep, been up since 5-something, and while I'm still happy Obama is president-elect, I'm so hollow over this measure. There's some hope in absentee ballots left to be counted, but right now, that's a narrow thread to cling to.

I am not surprised by the results from the Central Valley, but I am very disappointed that the difference in some of the Bay Area counties wasn't much larger. And what's up with the folks in Solano?

Time to take a deep breath, roll our sleeves back up, and figure out our next steps.

Florida passed a very similar ammendment. Never underestimate the power of stupid people in crowds.

Apparently enough people believed that the gay will rub off in schools if we allow them to get married.

I know the battle isn't over, that there's more that can be done here, but it's disheartening to know that people are so scared that their kids will turn gay that they'll do this to people.

I guess the No on 8 campaign failed to put a human face on this. I wonder if it would have been as easy to cast that vote if the last week had seen the airwaves blitzed with a series of well known gay people saying "Please don't take my marriage away from me." I mean, George Takei, for crying out loud!
