Actually, the delay wasn't really the phone company's fault.

The phones went down on the weekend. And from my initial testing, I thought it was the inside wiring. However, I was too wiped to futz with it that day, and we have cellphones; and pulling all the phones made the DSL work again, and that was all I cared about.

Phone and DSL are on the same wire; this really really pointed to inside wiring to me.

a week later I finally got to diagnosing...and it wasn't my wiring. It took me several hours to come to this conclusion, mind you. So I went to AT&Ts webside to perform an automated test...and they sent someone out.

That someone determined that it was not inside wiring...and that he could not fix it. So he left and the next day a maintenance crew came out and as far as I can tell, put me on fresh, brand new copper (I assume htis because my DSL is SO MUCH happier now it's ridiculous).

But it then took me a couple of days to bring my phones back up, because I misplaced my punchdown tool...and i had to replace it...and I bought the wrong one, so I had to go back and get the right blade. Very irritating.
