I'm doing most of my posting on this over at my G+ account, because my inspiration to start up again came from there, but I'm reposting this one here too because a few people who read LJ but not G+ might be interested.

I just realized that I can attribute at least part of recent success to my CPAP.

About a year ago, my cpap company switched me to a new mask, thinking I'd like it. I gave the mask a shot, and there were some aspects of the mask I really liked.

But it had a leak problem, that I kept thinking I could solve. Also, the way it attached to my face, put pressure on my sinuses in a way that I got used to but realized eventually was counter productive.

I used the mask for not quite a year before realizing that, over time, I was acting more and more like I had been when I wasn't using my CPAP.

Also, and I hadn't put two and two together, because I started paying attention to my weight after I switched back to my old mask.

But what really got me going dieting again was that I have gained 20 pounds since Sep, 2014, which seems ridiculous.

Except, if in fact I had been failing to adequately treat my apnea without realizing it, it's not ridiculous. It's frustrating, but not ridiculous.

It all goes to show that I need to do a better job of paying attention to things in the long term; I should've noticed and done something months before I actually did, but when things aren't instantaneous and the feedback connections are indirect, I have a tendency to miss them until they get really bad.

Which is what happened here; it got so bad that I was feeling miserable basically all the time.

This came up today because my cpap company called to replace my mask and I am going to be trying out one that's much closer to my old mask (which I'm using) and they promised a 30 day replacement guarantee if it doesn't work out. So we'll try it and see, because I really shouldn't be using a really old mask like I am.

But also.

TWENTY POUNDS in 9 months. Good grief.
