maelstrom's CPU overheated last night. It didn't take the system down, but my stupidity did. Blah! Anyway, things are working for the moment, but I'm concerned. And didn't sleep much since this happened at four in the morning.
That's... so odd. According to Pricewatch, P3-850s start at $86 (and 866s at $59, oddly), and P3-1000s at $90. You should be able to find a decent deal, on that scale.
You and me both. Hell, Pricewatch has Athlon 1GHz at $39, and Athlon XP 1700s at $44. Or, if you must spent about $90, the Athlon XP 2500 is $93. Get that Athlon XP 1700 and a $42 MSI K7T Turbo, and you're sitting at $86 before shipping. ;)
If you are considering replacing both mobo and CPU, I can vouch for the combination of XP 1800+ and that MSI board -- they're what I've got in my resurrected gaming machine, and the Athlon XP CPU blows the 2.1 GHz Pentium I have at work out of the water. Of course, the GB of RAM I have in there (as opposed to the 256 MB at work) might help that a little.

Date: 2003-06-10 09:17 am (UTC)I'll get a replacement fan a little later. And maybe a new CPU if this keeps up.
At least PIII-850s should be cheap.

Date: 2003-06-10 11:45 am (UTC)Hell, for that I'd go get an Athlon XP1800 with Asus A7V-VE motherboard for $89.
